Demystify the art of vegetarian cooking as you learn how to prepare delicious, unusual menus for friends, family and special occasions-- even if you're an absolute beginner in the kitchen.
How it works
Nadia will guide you through recipes and gives you tips for success, so you are doing the cooking yourself rather than watching a demonstration. You can come to Nadia's own kitchen in Wimbledon or ask Nadia to bring the cookery class to your home (it may be possible to hold cookery courses outside of London; please contact Nadia to discuss). At Nadia's, class size is limited to 3 people to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate fully. In your own kitchen, numbers will be subject to its size, but limited to 8 as a maximum, to ensure no one is just watching the whole time. The freshest of ingredients are supplied, and you will receive written copies of the recipe that we follow in the class so you are sure you can recreate the delicious meal you'll make on the day. You will have the choice of taking the food away on the day, or sitting down to the meal you've made right then and there.
What will we be making?
Nadia will speak to you about your preferences to ensure you'll be learning recipes that are to your taste. Your cookery class can focus on themes rather than dinner party menus; for example, you might like to explore soups, or food well suited to a summer garden party. You can also choose a menu from a particular culinary tradition if you would like to explore a specific culture through its food. Here are some examples of menus you might choose for your class if you were interested in cooking by culture:
Egypt
Waraq anab (stuffed grape leaves)
Babaghanough (smoked aubergine dip)
Felafel
Village Salad
Ricotta Konafa (shredded filo pastry pie with ricotta baked inside)
Morocco
Harira (a delicious, hearty soup that is a national dish)
Chick pea, aubergine and apricot tagine
Date and almond tart with orange flower water
Spain
Gazpacho (chilled tomato soup)
Espinacas con garbanzos (spinach and chickpeas with garlic, raisins and Spanish Paprika)
Saffron rice
Torta de Santiago (traditional almond cake)
Iran
Pistachio and Orange Soup
Persian jewelled rice
Chick pea khoresh
Saffron rice pudding
Modern European/ Eclectic
Beetroot risotto balls stuffed with goat's cheese, lemon zest and mint
Broad bean, sweet potato and dill tart
Chocolate, chile, cinnamon and fig cake
Remember, the above menus are merely suggestions; you are welcome to chat through your particular interests with Nadia and have her develop a cookery class tailored to those needs.
Pricing
Your cookery class, including all ingredients and plenty of food to eat or take away, is £125 per person, per session. Drinks for those dining on the spot are not included in this fee. An additional fee of £50 (total, not per person) will be payable should you request that Nadia gives the class in your home.
It is mostly the case that people book in groups rather than join a class, so if you are thinking of doing a cookery course, why not get one or two friends to do it with you? Otherwise, you can put your name on a waiting list and I will call you when there is an opportunity for you to join someone else. Please note, however, that this could sometimes mean waiting a few months.
Timing
Cookery courses can take place during the day for those taking the food away to enjoy at their convenience, or in the late afternoon for those planning on dining right then and there. Classes normally last around 3.5 hours, depending on the menu.
